Second annual Tattoo held at SBHS

Springs Boys’ High School (SBHS) held its second annual Brass Band Tattoo fund-raiser on Saturday on the school grounds.

The event kick off of at 6.30pm and started with a fanfare of trumpets from different band members.

Competing bands included Hoërskool Oos-Moot, Hoërskool Oosterland, the South African Police Band Gauteng and the Springs Boys’ High School’s marching and percussion bands.

The first performance of the evening was a concert performance from Hoërskool Oos-Moot.

The band was only started in April and this was their first large competition.

Bandmaster Brian Boucher says the fund-raising event helps to take the band to nationals and also provides funds to repair instruments.

“Instruments are incredibly expensive to repair and some of our instruments are more than 50 years old,” he says.

“But it’s more than just the equipment – it’s to keep the band running so it can showcase the talents of the youth and bring the community together.”

Boucher adds that they fully intend to make this an annual event.

“Last year was a great success, but this year was an even greater success because we had a lot more people attending than last year,” he says.

The final performance of the evening was a mass band performance followed by ‘Amazing Grace’.
