Visitors score final goal in Cup tie

Local u-10 football team will focus on the league game.

Springs Old Boys u-10 football team faced Sporting Football Academy in a home quarter-final Cup tie knockout match on Saturday.

The Bedfordview team was a tough team to beat but the match was evenly posed throughout the entire game.

Within minutes of the first half, Callum McAllister scored Old Boys’ first goal which was followed by their opponent’s who leveled the score 1-1.

In the high paced second half, Sporting Academy scored their second goal which put them two goals to one ahead.

Troy Halkerd from SOB netted the equalising goal 10 minutes before the final whistle blew.

Because it was a quarter-final game the match went into the first half of extra time where the score remained two goals each.

The nail-biting second half of extra time was heading towards the final whistle and penalty shootout when Sporting Academy scored the winning goal two minutes before the final whistle.

Coach Deon Naude couldn’t express enough how proud he and all the parents were of the hard-fought effort his u-10 boys and girls performed on the day.

“My team is currently lying second in the Eastern Gauteng u-10 Football League,” he says.

This means the coach and the team can now focus on trying to achieve a season league win.
