WATCH: Man bites police dog’s ear during tussle

A police dog in Tameside, Manchester was bitten on the head and ear during a scuffle with a wanted man.

A video on the Manchester Evening News’ website shows German Shepherd police dog, Manpol Theo, being bitten and kicked by an alleged violent offender.

According to the site, Theo’s handler deployed the dog after the man refused to surrender following a chase through Hyde in Tameside.

Theo managed to bring the man to a halt after he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.

During the scuffle, Theo’s handler, PC Greaves, broke his hand and sustained a bruised lip.

The six-year-old Theo has reportedly been set on fire, helped catch robbers and burglar suspects in his career, and starred in a children’s book, ‘Theo and the Mystery Muffin Thief’, according to Manchester Evening News.

The site further states the man in the clip has been charged with a public order offence, but never received any charges relating to Theo’s attack.

PC Greaves says the incident highlights the need for a law to recognise working animals injured while on duty.
