Murder suspect search ends in court

A 26-year-old man will spend 20 years in prison.

A twist of events happened during Lamshen Nakamphe Morwasehla’s trial in which he stood accused of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

He appeared in the Springs Regional Court on August 8, 2016 for sentencing on this offense, but during proceeding he was identified as the murder suspect sought in a different case.

The investigating officer in the murder case realised Morwasehla was the suspect he sought for a murder on July 2, 2016.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the investigation officer approached the court with a requisition.

“We requested Morwasehla to stand trial for the murder of Tshepo Vincent Motloung (21),” says Ramphora.

Motloung was shot and his body dumped at the Blesbokspruit on July 1, 2016.“He was still alive when his brother found him.

“The man was transported to the Far East Rand Hospital by ambulance, but died on July 2, 2016,” says Ramphora.

Morwasehla was sentenced to five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm on August 8, 2016 and, on July 25, just over a year after the murder, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the murder of Motloung.

He began serving his five year sentence at Modderbee Prison  last year and will remain there for the 15 year sentence, which will not be served concurrently with the five year sentence, as well.
