A hybrid operation was conducted by SAPS Crime Intelligence, Cluster detectives, Cluster Visible Policing and Dunnottar detectives from 6am to 2pm, on Friday.
After thorough investigation by police an Audi, which was allegedly used in committing house break-ins in the Ekurhuleni East Cluster between February and June, was spotted.
“In most incidents the crime pattern was the same and a silver Audi was spotted near the crime scene,” says Ramphora.
The vehicle was traced to Turffontein, where the stolen goods were recovered and two suspects were arrested.
Two suspects were taken to the Dunnottar Police Station. Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the suspects, aged 23 and 30 years, were charged with possession of suspected stolen property.
The two suspects appeared in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Their case was postponed to Tuesday (July 4) for a formal bail application.
Ramphora says the breakthrough came after the house break-in analysis project was completed due to the increase in house break-ins taking place in the cluster.
The stolen goods recovered in Turffontein included hi-fi’s, watches, electrical appliances, clothes, kitchenware, blankets, TVs, tablets and cellphones.
“The community will be informed in due time when and where to view the goods,” he says.
Ramphora says another seizure was made in Primrose on Monday.
However, nobody was arrested, as the people in the house ran away.
Ramphora says: “The operation was solely focused on tackling the house break-in issue and we are incredibly pleased with the results.”
The two suspects will remain in Modderbee Prison until their next court appearance.
