Armed hijackers assault vehicle owner

Suspects overpower senior citizen and take his vehicle.

A white Toyota Hilux bakkie was hijacked next to an open field in Pansy Road, near the N12 highway last Thursday.

The 61-year-old owner had allegedly parked his vehicle there to load mealies onto it.

SAPS spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the driver claims six suspects approached him before they drove off in his vehicle.

“One of the suspects was allegedly armed with a firearm, while the others were armed with pangas,” he says.

It is alleged the owner’s hands were bound with cable ties and the suspects assaulted him.

Ramphora says the suspects took R200 cash from the Hilux owner and drove off.

SAPS are investigating a case of hijacking.
