Springs police are investigating a case of hijacking which took place on the Paul Kruger highway last Friday.
Two suspects approached a 36-year-old man who was waiting at a red traffic light at 3.20am, and forced him into the boot of his vehicle.
Capt Johannes Ramphora, SAPS spokesperson, says a white VW Golf 7 stopped in front of the driver of a black Opel Corsa.
Two suspects allegedly got out of the Golf and opened both doors of the Corsa.
“One of the suspects pressed something against the driver’s neck and forced him out of the car and put him in the boot,“ he says.
The suspects allegedly drove around until the vehicle broke down at a place unknown to the victim.
“They couldn’t get the Corsa to start again and drove off in the Golf, leaving the victim in the boot of the vehicle,” he says.
Ramphora says the suspects took R1 000 and the victim’s cellphone with them.
The victim managed to escape from the boot of his vehicle.
