Residents want murder accused locked away

Community wants 35-year-old man accused of murdering two youths to pay for his sins.

Springs – Angry residents marched from Top Centre Taxi Rank to the Springs Magistrate’s Court, demanding that the court lock away a 35-year-old murder accused, on Tuesday.

He is accused of the double murder of Refiloe Moshime and Thuto Theko.

He allegedly shot them dead on April 14 at Moshime’s rental home during a love triangle fall-out.

KwaThema police spokesperson Warrant Officer Peter Tebeila says Refiloe’s body was found in a pool of blood in her rented room.

“The neighbours found Thuto’s body lying outside on the pavement with a bullet wound in his left eye and immediately informed the police,” he says.

The suspect was arrested soon after.

He has been out on R5 000 bail.

Furious community members demand justice for the late Refiloe Moshime and Thuto Theko.

Theko’s aunt, Priscilla Masondo, says they want justice for their loved ones.

“We don’t understand how the court decided to release this monster on bail when he has proven to society that he is dangerous.

“He killed our children in cold blood and didn’t show remorse for his actions.

“We are scared for our lives now that he is out on bail.

“As he never handed the gun to the police, he might try to kill again,” she says.

Masondo says they decided to organise the demonstration to express their frustration with the justice system.

“We will only find peace when he is sentenced and paying for killing our children.

“If the court releases him, we will hunt him down and do what he did to our children,” she says.

Ward 74 councillor Busi Khoza says this incident has sent a cold shiver down the community’s spine.

“We could not believe the perpetrator killed the young couple in such a brutal manner.

“We are sick and tired of such behaviour, where people play God with lives.

“We are pleading with the justice system to afford the late couple justice so their families can find healing and closure,” she says.

ANC Women’s League zonal chairperson Zandi Dzingwa says, “We don’t want stories from the court or the police – all we want is justice.

“If it was possible they should lock him away today because he doesn’t deserve to be free.

“He is a painful reminder to the families when they see him in the streets roaming freely while they are still mourning their children,” she says.

The case has been remanded until June 26.
