EMPD to monitor Geduld four-way stop

EMPD visibility at intersection might solve negligent driving problems.

Geduld resident Amanda Stander’s plea for an EMPD presence on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Sarel Cilliers Street in Geduld is getting attention.

She says they were recently nearly run over while crossing this intersection.

“It was not the first time we were almost run over, by the driver of a white car.

“We were halfway across the road when the driver decided he wouldn’t wait for us to cross and proceeded to turn, literally stopping about a metre or less from us,” she says.

She wants to know what happened to pedestrians having right of way when crossing the road.

Stander feels strongly about the EMPD deploying someone at this intersection.

“I can assure you the coffers will get a substantial boost from issuing fines to those non-conforming drivers who blatantly disregard traffic rules,” she says.

EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago says their regional office has been made aware of the issues raised.

“This intersection will be closely monitored,” says Kgasago.
