Laughter is the best medicine at Malan Nel centre

Members and friends of Malan Nel Dienssentrum recently gathered at the centre in Connaught Avenue, Paul Krugersoord, for a fun-filled morning.

The day commenced with a church service presented by Fred Jones, who is a regular visitor at the centre.

Centre manager Sarie Breytenbach says the seniors love Fred to bits and enjoy his messages.

Fred’s message was followed by a few fun and stimulating activities.

Some of the seniors formed a row and played broken telephone.

“The message was ‘Go to the shop and buy an O’,” says Sarie.

Sarie says they were giggling and had so much fun they couldn’t remember what the message was they had to pass on.

Tiensie Roets (89) says she enjoyed the game a lot, but was called out first because she was confused.

Another game played was blindfold drawings.

Game organisers Susan Stander and Leona Lange had the men standing with their backs towards the women and pinned a piece of paper to their backs.

The women were blindfolded and given a pencil to draw something on the piece of paper.

Susan says she was surprised to see how artistic people can be when blindfolded.

“It is a fun and stimulating activity for seniors and I am sure they all enjoyed the morning,” Susan says.

The fun activities were followed by a scrumptious lunch.
