Parkland boasts renal unit

Life Springs Parkland Hospital recently opened their newly built renal dialysis unit.

Nephrologist Dr Vakhtang Rekhviashvili, a doctor who specialises in kidney care and Sagren Sukhessan, Life Healthcare’s regional manager, east region, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Life Renal Dialysis is a specialised healthcare service providing acute and chronic renal (kidney) dialysis.

Hospital manager, Tertia Nieuwoudt, says Joel Barker once said a vision without action is merely a dream, action without vision just passes time but action with a vision can change the world.

“Our vision is to be a market-leading and diversified healthcare provider focused on delivering sustainable, high quality and cost effective healthcare.

“The building and opening of this renal dialysis unit is not only a dream come true for many of us but it will also make a change in the lives of patients in our community who frequently have to travel long distances to other dialysis units” says Nieuwoudt.

She says renal patients with acute or chronic kidney failure, travelling from the Springs area looking to receive expert treatment from a nephrologist, can now visit the state-of-the art renal dialysis unit at Parkland to see a nephrologist.

Dialysis services are offered from Monday to Saturday and flexible sessions can be arranged.

“Treatment services offered at this specialised facility include chronic haemodialysis and haemodiafiltration; acute haemodialysis; continuous renal replacement therapy and plasmapheresis,” says Nieuwoudt.
