Life Parkland salutes nurses

Life Springs Parkland Hospital acknowledged their nurses on International Nurses’ Day last Friday.

“We are grateful for their dedication and commitment to making life better for our patients,” says Tertia Nieuwoudt, the hospital manager.

She says this day, and the Life Healthcare’s Great 100 Nurses initiative, provide opportunities to focus on the excellent work being carried out by their nursing team, which strives for clinical excellence while delivering quality care to their patients.

“Our vision for nursing is to create the very best experience for our patients by placing them at the centre of care,” says Nieuwoudt.

The hospital celebrated their nurses and recognised their daily efforts to serve the community while achieving their local and hospital health goals.

“Most importantly we salute the nursing team for proving high quality nursing care that ensures not only a positive patient experience but also a better clinical outcome,” says Nieuwoudt.

She explains nursing is a calling which must be practised with empathy and full commitment irrespective of colour, race, age and religious values.

“Our profession requires care, compassion, critical thinking and problem-solving while offering opportunities to develop and grow in a personal and professional capacity,” she says.

Life Healthcare ICU unit manager Mandla Lituka, a 2016 Discovery Excellence Awards recipient, says nursing is a noble profession which teaches discipline, professional conduct and an appreciation for cultural diversity.

“It’s a job that requires caring, honesty, professionalism, vision, innovation and vigilance,” she says.

The hospital salutes their nurses for living up to their purpose of making life better and placing patients at the very centre of care.
