Novice wins bodybuilding competition

Leon Palm (29) recently won the Gauteng West Bodybuilding Championships held in Pretoria.

He took first place in the u-1.75m Classic bodybuilding category.

This was a proud moment for a man who still feels like a novice in the sport.

“I am proud of my first win,” says Palm.

The Krugersrus resident took up bodybuilding only six months ago and practised very hard to achieve his goal.

“When you practise five times a week and follow a low carbohydrate and high protein diet, the results are wonderful,” he says.

He claims he gained a lot of experience at the Millenium Golf plate, which was his first competition.

“I am more confident now and it feels good to have won the classic category at the championships,” says Palm.

He practises under the watchful eye of Deon Scheepers, who still holds the record of Mr South Africa Senior Weight for winning the title 24 times.

“I am extremely proud of Palm, who is a determined young athlete,” says Scheepers.
