Between the opening of the mall on March 16 to April 30, the Visible Policing Unit arrested 22 people for shoplifting and three for common robbery.
“We will patrol and monitor the mall on a daily basis,” says Ramphora.
He says they are working closely with management and all the security companies involved in order to prevent crime at the mall.

Ramphora says shoplifting cases against nine suspects are still under investigation while a further 10 shoplifting case were withdrawn.
One suspect was found guilty of shoplifting and was sentenced to one month imprisonment.
The suspect will serve his sentence at Modderbee Prison.
In other cases, two suspects were each sentenced to one year imprisonment and will be remanded at Modderbee Prison.

“They were both found unfit to possess a firearm,” says Ramphora.
“Common robbery cases against three other suspects were withdrawn,” he says.
“Mall management and the SAPS are working towards a safe environment for shoppers and tenants,” says Denise Wannenburg, Springs Mall general manager.
