Rat poison case referred to high court

The case of the Springs police officer who stands accused of murder and attempted murder after feeding her children rat poison in yoghurt on September 1, has been transferred to the North Gauteng High Court.

This after she briefly appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court last Monday.

KwaThema police spokesman Capt Thabo Sibuyi says the case was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions and then referred to the North Gauteng High Court.

Before poisoning herself, the KwaThema mother allegedly tried to poison her two children, aged four and 10 months, at her home in KwaThema.

The 10-month-old died on the way to hospital.

The mother was granted bail at her first court appearance on September 16, two weeks after she was discharged from hospital.
