Sewage raising a stink in Daggafontein

Residents in Mossie Street, Daggafontein Extension One, have just about had it with the smell of sewage and blocked drains.

“It has been an ongoing problem for many months,” says Brandon Jooste.

The 28-year-old resident lifted a drain cover on their premises and nearly fainted when he saw the drain filled to the brim with sewage.

He believes it will soon, if possible, lift the lid off the drain.

Since the family moved into this house in November, they have experienced problems with the drain.

“We have reported it numerous times and received a reference number, yet the problem persists,” he says.

In January the metro allegedly sent a truck to pump the sewage from the drain.

However, it only solved the problem for a few days before the drain blocked up again.

Whether the neighbours have reported the matter to the metro, he is not sure of, but he does know that the drain has become a serious health hazard.

“The sewage pushes up in the toilets and when we do the washing or dishes, the drain water changes into human faeces, pushed up from the same blocked sewage drain on the lawn,” he says.

This drain is only a few metres away from the kitchen drain.

He says they find it difficult to believe that the metro cannot solve the problem.

Jooste wants to know from the metro how they can expect residents to cook under such unhygienic conditions.

No comment was received from the metro at the time of publishing.
