Only 274 learners still need to be placed in Gauteng East

Learner placements in Ekurhuleni East have been drastically reduced to 274, this is according to a press release received from the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) on Friday.

The statistics given by the GDE were as of Wednesday.

GDE spokesman Oupa Bodibe says they experienced high admission pressure in Selcourt, Selpark, CBD and in Tsakane.

“We are pleased to announce that a total of 22 564 applications were received in Gauteng East which includes 12 721 Grade One and 9 842 Grade Eight applications,” he says.

He says they have placed 22 290 learners which only leaves 274 learners who still need to be placed.

Districts and schools remain in close contact to follow up on queries from the parents of unplaced learners.

“Our district officials working at the 62 operation centres have worked very hard to assist parents during the placement process,” says Bodibe.

In the whole of Ekurhuleni which includes the north, south and east, 82 621 of the 83 626 learners have been placed.
