Three robbers posing as customers rob Selection Park business

Springs police and the Selpark CPF apprehended three suspects and recovered the money taken during a business robbery in Oppenheimer Circle, Selection Park, on Saturday.

The robbery occurred at 5.15pm, when three suspects entered the shop, posing as customers.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs SAPS spokesman, the three suspects pretended to buy a few grocery items.

“The suspects entered the shop as would-be customers before pointing a firearm at the teller and demanding cash,” says Ramphora.

He claims the screams of a child (age unknown), who was in the shop at the time, drew the attention of the business owner next door who then pressed the panic button in his shop.

When the suspects realised they had been noticed, the armed suspect took money from the till and all three suspects fled the scene in a white Corsa.

“CPF members followed the vehicle and managed to force it to a halt on the corner of Bushell Crescent and Willey Avenue in Selection Park,” says Ramphora.

The three suspects, aged 22, 23 and 29 years, were arrested and taken to the police station.

“A firearm was found in their possession,” says Ramphora.

The three suspects will remain in the police cells until their first court appearance.
