Protect yourself and your money at the ATM

Thieves normally use the festive season as a time to prey on unsuspecting victims.

It’s therefore always important, to be cautious and vigilant when going to the bank or ATM, to deposit or withdraw money.

Police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora warns locals to ensure that they don’t fall victim to criminals, especially while at the Springs CBD, by following the tips below when at the ATM or bank:

• Don’t expose your bank card to criminals.

• Always keep your pin safe and cover the key pad buttons, when entering your pin at the ATM.

• When going to the bank, go with someone you trust.

• Avoid going to the ATM after hours.

• Don’t withdraw large sum of money – rather do cash transfers.

• Business owners should stop going to the bank with large sums of money.

• When going to do grocery shopping, get yourself vouchers instead of carrying money.

• Employers who carry or withdraw larger sums of money to pay employees, should rather ask employees to open bank accounts, so that they can transfer the money.

By following these safety tips, you may stay safe these holidays.
