No date set for opening of Murray Park

Despite numerous updates on Murray Park, no date was given by the Ekurhuleni Metro of when the official opening will take place.

Ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin visited Murray Park on Monday to see the progress made by the metro contractors, since phase two of the improvements started in April already.

The upgrades at Murray Park are part of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP).

The metro is currently working on phase three.

Phase one was completed in 2014, which included the building of several chalets and two ablution blocks. The entrance was renovated and fitted with solar lights. The caretaker’s house was also completed as part of phase one, as well as installation of outdoor gym equipment and a playground for children.

“I’m pleased that they’ve commenced and are continuing with the work,” he says.

In a response received by Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, on February 18, titled ‘Phase one finished at Murray Park’, it stated: “an adequate progress report will be given by the end of June”.

However, no report was received to date.

Ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin was impressed with what was done during phase one, but without any report he’s not sure what was done during phase two.

“Murray Park will be more beautiful and user friendly than it’s ever been, once completed,” he says.

Gadebe says there are no delays with the project and phase one and two were completed on time.

However, he didn’t include what was done during phase two.

The metro are currently in phase three, which includes the construction of roads, parking spaces, the renovation of the entrance – and construction of the interactive water feature.

That phase will commence in January.

“At this stage, we’re unable to state when the park will be re-opening to the public,” says Gadebe.
