EMPD officer and his mother arrested for possession of hijacked truck

On Friday an EMPD officer and his mother were arrested after EMPD officers found a hijacked truck on their premises in Eastvale.

Two EMPD officers picked up the signal of the hijacked truck, an Isuzu 8-Tonner, at 9am, which led them to Eastvale where the truck was located at the house allegedly belonging to a metro police officer and his mother.

It is believed the officer’s mother is a correctional services officer.

According to Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesman, the owner of the truck claims the truck, with three employees inside, left the premises in Emalahleni (Witbank) to deliver a shipment of flour to a business in Benoni.

On their way there, a marked EMPD vehicle with blue lights, occupied by four fully uniformed officers, stopped them.

“One of the officers approached the driver and struck him with a hammer and all three victims were thrown into the back of the truck.

“The victims were subsequently dumped near Boksburg,” says Kgasago.

The driver sustained serious injuries and is said to be fighting for his life in the ICU at Tambo Memorial Hospital in Boksburg.

“Seemingly, the two suspects changed the number plates of the truck, as the ones displayed do not correspond with the clearance certificate displayed on the windscreen,” says Kgasago.

The duo was arrested and detained at Springs Police Station on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle.

The other two suspects are still at large.

The suspects will remain in custody and were expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“In-depth investigations are underway to get to the bottom of the matter,” says Kgasago.
