Wrestlers fight for charity

The community enjoyed the entertainment provided by the wrestlers of the Pro Wrestling Charity Slam, held at the Springs Rugby Club, last Saturday.

Gerrie Kuyper ‘The Jackal’ says the aim of the event was to collect food for charity.

“We got all the wrestlers together to entertain the community and to fill the trailer and bakkie with non-perishable food,” he says.

The results for the charity slam are:

Clinton ‘Harliquin’ Smith and Ian ‘The Bandit’ Meyer was the first wrestlers who competed.

The Bandit defeated Harliquin by a pinfall.

Gerrie says during match two a tag team entered the ring.

Steve Eden, Tjopper ‘Griffin’ Hattingh, Paul ‘Cowboy’ de Vries and Jonathan ‘Blizzard’ van Rensburg formed part of the tag team match, which left Steve Eden as the winner by pinfall.

George ‘Xterminator’ Wilhelm, the Heartland Wrestling Association Heavyweight Champion defeated Marcel ‘The Ripper’ Jonker via disqualification.

Match four saw a triple threat match between Julius ‘Hector Payne’ Reichel, South African Pro-Wrestling (SAPW) Heavyweight Champion Adriaan ‘The Crow’ Harding and SAPW Hardcore Champion Gerrie ‘The Jackal’ Kuyper.

The Jackal was the winner and retains his title.

Ex-SAPW wrestler Spider Vogel who wrestled for 36 years, supported the event.

He feels it is necessary that the youth get involved in this sport.
