The new sergeants are Frans Strydom, Thumi Phooke, Martin Mabaso, Mpho Dire, Lerato Mahlabane, Cornelius Moropa, Mandla Shabangu and Sedrick Monareng.

Gwebushe explained the important role of the new sergeants and says they might also act in a senior position, therefore they should remember to be disciplined at all times.

“If you stay disciplined you will grow in the police service,” Gwebushe says.

She was particularly proud of Strydom saying “others cannot meet your standards”.

“You really deserve this promotion and I am exceptionally proud of you,” she says. Strydom thanked the brigadier for her praise. “Thank you brigadier for your signature of approval for my promotion, I will not disappoint you,” says Strydom.

Gwebushe’s message to the others were to “keep up the good work”.

Cothill thanked management for her promotion, while Mahlabane felt it was long overdue, but she promised to maintain the SAPS discipline.

Dire says he will take in his responsibility and will not disappoint the brigadier.

Stoltz says it is good to see the newly appointed sergeants are moving forward.

“May God bless you,” Stoltz says.

Lt Col Mandie Davel asked the new sergeants to wear their new epaulettes with pride.

“Be good sergeants,” Davel says.

According to Lt Col Collen Gumbi, the sergeants are to be police ambassadors and asked them to behave accordingly.

“Our doors are open for questions and advice, we will give you guidance if necessary,” says Capt Johannes Ramphora, SAPS spokesman.
