Addie fountain is fenced off to keep vagrants out

According to metro spokesman Themba Gadebe, they decided to put up the fence in order to secure the pump.

“The intention is to restore the fountain and clean the area,” he says.

Another purpose for the fence is to ensure that vagrants don’t use the fountain as a place in which to wash themselves.

Gadebe says the heap of soil belongs to the car dealership opposite the fountain.

“The owner is using the soil for building purposes and will clear the visible rubble afterwards,” he adds.
