WATCH: Not just any old braai day

Saturday was Heritage Day, a day when various different ethnic groups across South Africa celebrated the diverse cultures in the country.

Heritage Day is also known to many as National Braai Day, giving braai-enthusiasists the perfect excuse to stand around a fire for most of the day.

However, while everyone was standing around the braai celebrating, we have to ask if they were celebrating Heritage Day or if they were simply enjoying another typical South African Saturday, doing what they love most about the weekends.

In today’s age, it’s not in everyone’s skill set to be able to start a roaring fire to sizzle their meat on but everyone should be able to enjoy a good traditional braaivleis whenever they want to.

Here is a short video that can be useful to those who are not the every-day-braaimaster and possibly to the women who want to tackle fire-making on their own and broaden their skill set.

The Springs Advertiser’s readers voiced their favourite ‘braaivleis’ on the WhatsApp line. Listen here to find out what they had to say.
