Duck pond’s water reaching critical levels

The water level at the George Sutter Park duck pond is reaching crisis levels since the borehole pump stopped working recently.

Kathy Preston, who feeds her feathered friends at the pond twice a day, says it is the third pump that has broken since the completion of renovations of the duck pond.

“The pump was removed about a month ago and has still not being fixed or replaced,” she says.

According to ward councillor Shadow Shabangu it is the pump motor that needs repairs and they await a quotation.

“As soon as we receive the quotation, necessary steps will be taken for repairs,” he says.

If the pump motor cannot be repaired they will look at buying another pump.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says metro officials will investigate and discuss the matter with the business partners to seek remedial action.
