Illegal miner drops shotgun

A Protecta shotgun, allegedly linked to a murder case, was found by the security at Grootvlei Mine on Thursday.

It is believed the security noticed illegal miners crossing the property and alerted the police.

“The firearm is allegedly linked to a murder and robbery case reported in 2013 in Carltonville,” says Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora.

When the police arrived at the scene at 9am, the illegal miners fled.

During their escape one of them allegedly dropped something and upon further investigation the police came across the shotgun.

Ramphora says the shotgun allegedly belongs to a security company in Benoni.
