Senior citizens enjoy social jukskei

Every Monday a group of senior citizens get together for a few games of jukskei at Malan Nel Diensseuntrum.

Jukskei is one of the activities offered at the club and was started in 1985.

According to centre manager, Sarie Breytenbach, the seniors decided amongst themselves to start the jukskei programme and in 1991, with the new club came new jukskei courts.

“This came much to the delight of the club members,” says Sarie.

They only play friendly games and the club currently has 16 players.

Sarie says they have played a few friendly games against Esda Old Age Home who also have their own jukskei courts.

The local team only play two annual games, one at home and one away.

They play against Kempton Park’s Herfsblare Jukskei team once a year, at their home ground.

“It’s great fun and everyone always look forward to the trip where they also meet other players,” says Sarie.

The club members invite all jukskei players to join them for friendly jukskei practice at 8.30am every Monday at the centre.

Sarie says if any club wants to play a friendly match against the senior citizens, they are welcome to contact her on 084 401 7916.

“If the clubs want us to play on their jukskei courts we will gladly do that,” says Sarie.
