Armed suspect assaults business owner

Two suspects fled a crime scene in an unknown vehicle after they robbed a business in Ninth Street, CBD of goods and cash to the value of R8 300 last Wednesday.

Two people were still in the store at 7.20pm when the two suspects entered.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says one suspect, who was armed with a firearm used it to hit the owner over the head and ordered both victims to lie down.

“The armed suspect informed his accomplice to “take what we want,” says Ramphora.

The two suspects took a jacket, two cellphones and cash to the amount of R3 600.

Ramphora says the two suspects left the shop and allegedly fled the scene in a silver vehicle.

One of the victims was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to Ramphora the police visited the victim in hospital and was allegedly informed by the doctor on duty that the victims sustained minor injuries and allegedly didn’t need stitches.

No arrests have been made.
