SOB soccer boys not happy with a second draw

The u-12 Springs Old Boys soccer team started off this season with a bang and Saturday's game was no different.

They played against Benoni Spurs at their home ground, and throughout this tough game none of the teams were willing to let go one inch to allow the other team to score a goal.

Leaving both teams with their second match as a goalless draw.

There were quite a few close encounters for Aidan ‘Bongani’ Jayne close to the opposition’s goal.

Team manager Titi Nkosi feels the team will have better luck next time.

Manqoba ‘Game Changer’ Magudulela, the goalkeeper, says they could have won the game, but he did what he does best, and that is to protect his team’s goal, as good as possible.

SOB’s team striker says the draw is OK, but they have to work harder and stronger amongst themselves for the next game.

Coach Ronney Slava says: “It was a close encounter but their opponents were possibly better prepared.”

“Benoni Spurs team managed to close us down on critical areas, their defence system didn’t allow us to play well and score any goals,” he says.

Before the season even started the team played in a couple of tournaments which were used as testing grounds to see how ready the boys were.

“The results were marvellous because at one of the tournaments our goalie Game Changer was awarded the trophy for the best goalkeeper and our striker Lungile ‘Sonic’ Vilikazi was awarded the trophy for best player,” says the coach.

“When we started we were already on a high and we kicked off with wins in both the cup and league games. So far we have won all our cup games, lost one game and drew two in the league.

“We are currently leading in our division which is Division 1 Gold,” says Titi.

She says the previous game was a 1-1 draw but she is confident that the boots will have better luck next time.
