Liquor store in Springs gets robbed

An armed man, pretending to be a customer, robbed a liquor store in Springs on Wednesday.

The suspect asked for a cool drink and when a 21-year-old employee returned with it, the suspect pointed a firearm at the employee.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the suspect ordered the employee to stand still.

A second suspect entered the liquor store carrying a bag and threw it on the floor while a third suspect stood guard at the door.

“The unarmed suspect packed liquor into the bag and searched the employee,” says Ramphora.

He took the employee’s cellphone and the bag filled with liquor and all three suspects ran out of the store, got into a silver Hyundai and drove off.

Rampohora says the employee claims he recognised one of the suspects, who was allegedly involved in a previous robbery that took place at the liquor store.

Liquor, a card swipe machine, cigarettes and an unknown amount of cash were taken by the suspects.

All the stolen goods are worth approximately R90 000.

The police are investigating a business robbery.
