Old Boys clinch another victory

On Sunday Springs Old Boys’ u-12 team played an away cup game against Edenvale Football Club.

Kick off time was 9am and saw Old Boys starting off strong.

Olwethu Gama played as the team’s goalkeeper in the beginning and what a sterling performance he put on.

“We are determined that the whole team will do great even though we have a missing player and have had to reshuffle things a bit,” says team manager Titi Nkosi.

Upon arrival of the missing team member – 15 minutes into the first-half – Old Boys’ coach Ronnie Slava, ushered the team into formation as they set up to seal their victory.

With Manqoba Magudulela at the poles as goalkeeper and Olwethu back as a striker, the youngsters were able to pick up the pace of the game.

The opposition did, however, score the first goal minutes before the end of the first-half.

“That’s okay,” says Titi, “we are ready to own the second-half.”

“The whole team looks fired up.”

Hardly five minutes into the second-half Lungile ‘Sonic’ Vilakazi netted the first goal for the Old Boys.

Old Boys proved to be stronger as they managed to score the second and final goal of the day.

Olwethu was the man of the moment as his goal led the team to victory.

“I am really proud of the boys,” says Titi, “dynamite certainly does come in small packages.”

Titi says the boys have shown great courage and team spirit, especially considering the fact that they were short of players at the beginning of the game.

“They played so well and supported each other,” she says, “they displayed that they can play in any position the coach puts them in and still deliver world-class football.”

“Well done, boys.”

The final score was 2-1 to Old Boys.
