Old Boys excel

On Thursday the Springs Old Boys u-12 team played their home league game against the Rovers.

The game was played following its postponement last week Sunday.

The kick-off time was 09:30 as the Old Boys embarked on what would be their victory.

The first half saw Aiden Jayne score the first goal of the game at just two minutes into kick-off.

While the opposition was putting up a good defence game, the Old Boys were victorious once more as Lungile Vilakazi scored the team’s second goal, at just 17 minutes into the first half.

“We are really doing well so far,” says team manager Titi Nkosi.

“As you can see, the boys are being kept busy today, but they are still giving their best.”

The opposition’s E Grantham secured the first goal for his team.

Twenty-three minutes into the first half he gave his Rover team members something to be excited about, after the tough fight the Old Boys had been putting up.

The score at the end of the first half was 2-1 to Old Boys.

The second half saw the Old Boys come back better and stronger as, hardly five minutes into the second half, Olwethu Gama scored the team’s third goal.

Old Boys defended right until the end, giving the Rovers a run for their money.

“The boys are not leaving room for error today,” says Titi, “they are in it to win it.”

In the 53rd minute, Katlego ‘Socks’ Makolla put the icing on the cake as he gave his Old Boys team another goal.

This goal sealed the victory for the young champions as they celebrated with their famous victory dance, the ‘dab’.

“That’s what we want to see,” says Titi, “we are here to win games.”

Titi declared Manqoba Magudulela as the man of the match, following his display of perseverance, camaraderie and sportsmanship on the field.

The final score at the end of the game was 4-1 to Springs Old Boys.
