Funds for Mpho

On Wednesday (May 25), the Mpho Madi Trust (a non-profit organisation) hosted its first fund-raising golf day.

The event was hosted at Pollak Park Golf Club where the tee-off time was 10am and the players took part in the four-ball alliance games.

The occasion was initiated as a way for the trust to raise funds that will go towards the medical expenses and equipment of 16-year-old Mpho Madi (from Strubenvale), who was born without limbs.

“Mpho continuously needs assistance with regards to funds for her medical equipment, due to the rapid developments in bio-medical technology,” says Mpumi Madi, who is Mpho’s mother and a board member of the trust.

“The more sophisticated the medical equipment gets, the better the quality of life afforded to her.”

The trust is currently trying to raise funds for new prosthesis and a new wheelchair for Mpho.

“The challenge we find with people who are in Mpho’s position is that there is no access or infrastructure available for them to properly integrate with the community and fellow community members,” says Mpumi

“People with disabilities are only made disabled by their environment which is what we, as a society, need to focus on fixing in future.”

The event gathered great support from corporate sponsors, distinguished guests, as well as the management and staff of the golf club.

“We are very grateful to all our sponsors and to Pollak Park for the support, kindness and hospitality they have extended to us,” says Mpumi. “We look forward to making this an annual event here.”

The golf day, which ran until later that evening, was followed by a prize-giving, raffle draw and auction.

The evening was rounded off with a complimentary dinner.

“We would like to thank everyone who came to support Mpho,” said the trust’s chairperson, Tebogo Tshipi, “the event has been a great success.”
