Water leak finally fixed

The Addie was inundated with complaints from residents about a serious water leak in Vogelstruisbult Road directly opposite Daggafontein Informal Settlement.

The residents claim the water meter started leaking in March already and they have reported the leak to ward councillor Shadow Shabangu and the Ekurhuleni Metro several times.

Shabangu denies these reports and says he noticed the leak a while ago and reported it to the metro for repairs.

However, the metro claims none of the above is true as they only responded to a recent complaint they received.

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, says as soon as they received the alert of the big leak they started organising for it to be repaired.

The leak was fixed last Monday.

He claims the tap inside the meter box was reported two weeks ago and was fixed immediately.

The water which is still visible is due to the fact that there is no drainage.

“We have reported this to the metro’s Roads and Storm Water Department,” says Gadebe.

According to him they are not aware of any missing manhole covers in the area, but he says they will revisit the area to check on this.

“It is much easier if we can always have reference numbers for these alerts as it will assist us in tracking them and attending to them on time,” says Gadebe.
