Monthly medal madness

The Springs Country Club hosted its Monthly Medal golf competition on Saturday.

Tee-off time was set at 7am for the monthly club members’ competition. The aim of the monthly competition is to accumulate a score on the premise that the game is played until the golf ball lands in the hole.

The competition takes place on the first full weekend of every month, throughout the year.

Monthly medal is played in three divisions and each division is handicap based.

“The competition is open to both men and women, with final scores being calculated on the nett at the end of the game,” says Marlene Nel of the country club.

The results for the men’s competition are as follows, and are reflected per division played:

Pieter van der Merwe secured the first position in the A-division (handicap 0-9) with a nett score of 70.

Piet Erasmus came in at second place with a nett of 75.

The score for the B-division (handicap 10-17) was 67 nett to Harry Muller, who took the first position.

Hein Venter’s score of 69 nett secured him a second position.

The C-division (handicap 18-36) saw Connie Wild take the top honours with a nett score of 67 while Hennie Muller’s 71 nett on count out secured his runner-up position.

Nearest pin overall was achieved by Harry Muller at pin number eight.

The women’s final scores, after the tee-off time of 11:45am were as follows:

Top ladies’ A-division (handicap 0-18) score was 76 nett which was obtained by the winner, Ilana Prinsloo.

The B-division (handicap 19-26) ladies’ score saw Lemé Stander accumulate a total of 77 nett to win the division.

Bettie Lots who had a score of 38 nett earned the win in the ladies’ C-division (handicap 27-16) game.
