An executive community police forum was chosen for the Sector One CBD CPF at the Springs Police Station boardroom on Monday.
Springs CPF chairman Mike du Toit attended the meeting and briefed the residents on the CPF’s bigger role in the fight against crime in the CBD.
“It is not so simple to fight crime if you don’t have the support of the community,” he said.
At a previous meeting held on April 11 the guests heard that the community can be the eyes and ears of the police, because residents know what is going on in their community.
W/O Ferdi de Waal is the Sector One manager who will lead the CBD CPF newly elected executive committee.
The new CBD chairman is Kobus Kok with Thomas Nxele as his deputy.
Dineo Dumise will take the secretarial chair with Vusi Tshili as the deputy secretary.
The guests unanimously decided on Sam Nyapha as the treasurer with Cecilia Morake as his deputy.
The public relations officer is Francois ‘Grobbie’ Grobler, who will liaise with the media or other CPF’s when necessary.
Casper Badenhorst is the information officer who will assist de Waal.
De Waal said he needs someone who can liaise directly with him instead of having all the CPF members phoning him with information.
Christo Austin and Bianca Coetzer were elected as the two extra executive committee members.
The committee is anxious to begin its task to assist the police and make the CBD a crime-free area.
De Waal said they will meet once a month at a venue that will be announced at a later stage.
