Springs EMPD officers responded to the accident scene in the subway.
When officers Lousi Els and Louwtjie du Toit arrived at the scene, they found the man lying in the road, where paramedics from Hi-Care Ambulance Services declared the man dead at the scene.
It is believed the deceased resided in Geduld.
“The vehicle involved failed to stop after the accident and fled the scene,” says Els.
According to an eyewitness it was a truck that hit the deceased, but the witness couldn’t provide the officers with any more information.
A case of culpable homicide, failing to stop at an accident scene as well as reckless and negligent driving was opened at the Springs Police Station.
Police spokesman Capt Ramphora confirms the case was opened and says they are investigating.
