Metro provides prompt service

The residents of a complex in Wilhelmina Street, Casseldale, want to praise the Ekurhuleni Metro for its prompt service over the weekend.

According to Casseldale resident Irene Venter, there was a burst water pipe at the entrance to the complex on Friday morning.

“Water was seen streaming down the road,” she says.

After reporting the leak to the metro call centre, metro workers arrived and turned off the water.

The workers returned on Saturday to open the pipe and fix it, but on Sunday another pipe burst.

“It wasn’t even 2m away from where the first burst pipe was,” says Venter.

Again she reported the burst pipe to the call centre and the metro quickly responded to this call by sending out people to turn off the water supply to prevent too much water going to waste.

Another resident, Sannie van Vuuren says although they experienced some discomfort at the gate of the complex and not having water for a couple of hours, they were very thankful for the metro’s prompt service.

“The paving at the entrance to our complex had to be lifted to enable the metro workers to repair the pipe, which prevented us from from driving in and out,” says van Vuuren.

The discomfort didn’t last long, as the metro workers returned to the scene on Monday at about 4.30pm, to allow the residents’ vehicles to enter and leave the premises.

Van Vuuren claims the metro workers informed her that there were more burst pipes in Wilhelmina Street that were allegedly due to a water pipe that construction workers opened at the premises of the new Springs Mall, which they claim caused too much pressure on this particular pipeline, which led to the burst pipes.

“We are proud of the service rendered by the metro,” she adds.

The entrance to the complex was not accessible due to the paving that had to be lifted to enable the metro workers to fix the two burst pipes, which were within 2m of each other.
