Two wins for Springs rugby

Two Springs teams claimed victory over East Rand United teams at the Springs Rugby Club, on Saturday.

The u-21 team had to bow down to their opponents and lost the game by 26-10.

A much tougher game awaited the local second and first teams, but they triumphed over their opponents.

It was a home victory for the second team when they beat East Rand United 22-19.

The first team were well prepared for their game against the East Rand United’s first team, at 4pm.

Rudolf Cronje, club chairman, says the 80-minute game was a tough and exciting encounter in which both teams showed good sportsmanship.

Inus Vermaak scored Springs’s first try, which was converted by the boot of Gerrit Jordaan, who securely kicked the ball through the uprights to score more points for the home team.

Cliffie Viljoen ended the first half with his first try of the game, followed by a kick by Jordaan, leaving the half time score at 12-6 in the home team’s favour.

At the start of the second half, Kazlo Holtshauzen accurately placed the ball and, within seconds of the start, Thys de Beer scored his first try for his team. This was followed by another, secure kick by Jordaan.

Although the home team were penalised a few times, they were determined to stay on top of their game.

The game finished on a high note, with de Beer scoring another try at the end of the game, giving Springs a victory of 31-21.
