Woman (18) raped in park

The Springs police are looking for two suspects in connection with a rape case.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says two suspects in a white vehicle, grabbed an 18-year-old woman at 3.30pm, in Sixth Street, CBD on Friday.

They pushed her into their vehicle and drove to a park in Twelve Street, where they told her to “be quiet” and threatened to kill her.

Both of the suspects reportedly raped the woman.

According to Ramphora they took the woman’s cellphone and her taxi money before leaving her in the park and driving off.

The woman, an Etwatwa resident, walked to the Springs Taxi Rank to seek help.

“She asked for money to go home to her family,” says Ramphora.

Instead a good Samaritan took her to the Springs Police Station where a rape case was opened.

Ramphora says women should avoid walking alone, particularly in areas where there are not many people moving around.

He added that no arrests have been made yet but that the case is under investigation.
