Senior citizens love watching Joy Dogs

Three Joy Dogs recently visited the senior citizens at the Springs Retirement Village, and staged a show for them.

The initials of the names of the three old English sheepdogs, Jazmine, Oscar and Yola, make up the name of the organisation.

Sue Green, from Joy Dogs, says the dogs are also part of a paint advertisement and are available for shows or visits to wherever necessary.

The well trained animals showed off their tricks to the seniors, including reading cards and counting out their ages in barks.

“Everyone was thrilled to meet the beautiful dogs,” Sue says.

During these shows, the audiences are always informed about the origins of the dogs and the work they do at aged homes and schools.

“We even show them the products made from spinning the dogs’ unwanted hair into wool, which is then knitted into garments,” she says.

The organisation sells the hand-knitted beanies and scarves to raise funds.

Each senior citizen was given a notebook with a picture of the dogs and some spun dog hair.
