Tree falls down

A Selection Park resident, Dennis Geldenhuys (69), has a fallen tree blocking his front yard and half of the road due to the strong winds the town experienced on February 4.

Dennis says that bad storms have caused trees to fall over before and this time was no different.

The tree was initially blocking the entire road but a neighbour managed to pull it to the side of the road with his vehicle.

“The tree is too heavy for any man to pull or even move, that is why it is still in the road,” says Dennis.

The day it happened Dennis was unaware that the storm would do such damage and only when he heard the tree snap in half did he realise the severity of the situation.

“When we previously had the same problem, it took weeks for the tree to be removed and I have resigned myself to the same fate this time round,” says Dennis.

He would like the metro to also trim the trees as he feels if another bad storm strikes it could do damage to his fence and his neighbours’ fence.

He has lodged a complaint with the metro and is waiting for someone to come and collect the tree and also trim some of the bigger tree branches.

The metro is yet to comment on the tree and when it will be removed.
