A book a day keeps reality away

It is no secret that modern technology has slowly taken over the lives of the young and old, far and wide.

Not only is it difficult for the average person to survive without their beloved, reliable smart phone, tablet or computer, but children have also decided that the latest gadgets are perfect gifts come Christmas and birthdays.

Where are the days when a library card held the same value as a bank card?

A library is not only a place to do an assignment you forgot about until the last minute, it is a place filled with knowledge and an escape from reality.

Rows and rows of books at your disposal means you can get lost for hours just trying to find a novel to fill your time at home.

The library is quiet and any form of noise is frowned upon; a bonus for all visitors looking for escapism.

With technology fast taking over the world, there are many apps on your phone or computer which allow you to download the latest best seller trilogy but the effect is not the same as having to make a trip to a book palace, scan for your choice, get the due date stamped and walking out with your new, temporary possession.

To be able to escape from your problems and read word for word how the indestructible detective solves case after case is amazing.

Or turning page after page to see if the not so damsel in distress finds her knight who she did not know she needed.

Everyone needs time to relax and to just momentarily forget their real lives and that is why we have buildings, filled with real books for people who really need to take a real break.

A movie does not have the same effect. How many times have you spoken over the sounds of Bella telling Edward that she wants to be a vampire or Christian telling Anna to sign the contract?

Nobody would dare interrupt a person who is reading a book, its the unspoken law. Unless eye contact is made, move along with your very important topic of conversation.

So visit a book store more often, you are guaranteed to get more than just aisles full of fantasies, fiction, sci-fi adventures and thrillers.
