Metro fails to collect stumps

Months after trees were felled, Moses Mahamu (54), an Eastvale resident, is still waiting for Ekurhuleni Metro to collect the stumps from his front yard.

The stumps that remained after the metro felled the bluegum trees in August have still not been collected and Moses is fed up.

Moses had requested the trees be cut down as he felt they posed a danger to his family and himself.

“Before the trees were cut down, anyone could climb on them and jump into my yard,” says Moses.

“The stumps that have not been collected are also dangerous as people can stand on them and look into my yard,” he adds.

Metro had initially refused to cut the blue gumtrees down as it would cause damage to his wall, but he eventually had the trees trimmed at his own expense.

The local resident says his house was surrounded by the big trees, and after numerous requests, they were all cut down over a two year period.

He believes that it is metro’s duty to clean up the mess that was made and that it should not take this long to collect two tree stumps.

The metro says the stump has been poisoned so that it can decay on its own.
