What made it so special was the fact that she did it in remembrance of her late husband Bernard Murphy, the late Mike Hay and Striders friend Paul Ras.
For many years Joy and Paul started this race together.
This would have been Paul’s 37th Striders 32km race, but due to bad health he wasn’t able to participate.
Joy walked the distance in agony due to an injury she got from a bad fall the week prior to the race, but through determination she pulled through and finished the race.
The medal she received on the day she gave to Paul.
We are deeply moved and touched.
