EFC fighter is confident

Local Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) mixed martial arts fighter, Stefan Pretorius (23) will be fighting against Ambamba 'Robo' Matala (28) on March 5 in the EFC 47 fight.

Mr Kick, the name Stefan goes by in the hexagon, is feeling confident about the upcoming fight which will be held at Carnival City.

He comes off an impressive win over Wade Sage at EFC 44 and is looking to settle into his new welterweight division.

Stefan’s opponent, Ambamba, is the champion in his home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), so this match promises to be an exciting one.

Ambamba who currently trains at the Sandton Fight Club moved to South Africa with the dream of signing with EFC and to represent the DRC on the world stage as a powerful and athletic fighter.

Stefan who trains at the Rio Grappling Club in Springs, says he is training hard for the upcoming fight and will fight smarter and harder in order to win.

The local fighter who started kickboxing when he was 12 years old and moved to mixed martial arts (MMA) when he was 18 years old, is putting in more hours at the gym to prepare himself for the fight.

He says, “I train in all aspects of the MMA game, ground, stand-up and wrestling, so although I am nervous about this fight I am also confident that I will win this one.”

This will be the third fight for Mr Kick, having lost a previous fight in the lightweight division to Robert Simbowe and beating Wade Sage in the welterweight division.

Jurgen Putter, who is Stefan’s trainer, is also feeling confident about the upcoming fight.

“Stefan has not stopped training and he is fit and healthy, he has a good team behind him who is supporting him all the way so he will win this fight,” says Jurgen.

Stefan adds that he will fight his way to a win and that he is not too concerned about the fight that Robo is bringing.

“I get stronger with each fight so I am not concerned about what Robo brings to the hexagon,” he concludes.
