Murder accused back in court next week

The three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Maj Coert Jordaan (39) appeared in the Springs Magistrates Court on Monday.

The case was postponed until next Tuesday .

Two of the suspects, who appeared before magistrate Cornel Pretorius, are charged with Jordaan’s murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The third suspect, who allegedly bought Jordaan’s service pistol, but was not involved in the murder according to one of the first two accused, was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and appeared before magistrate Collen Mashego.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the two separate cases were postponed to enable the accused to get legal aid.

Two of the accused were arrested in Etwatwa last Thursday where two unlicensed firearms were found in their possession as well as Jordaan’s Nissan Navada.

According to Ramphora, one of the two accused of murder told the police where to find the third accused, who was arrested in Daveyton on Friday for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

One of the men accused of murder told the police he had sold Jordaan’s service pistol to another man (the third accused) who was not involved in Jordaan’s murder.

The men were not asked to plead and did not apply for bail.

They remain in custody at the Modderbee Prison until their next court appearance.
