Athletes take to the road

The 47th annual Garbie Striders 15km and 32km road race will take place at Springs Rugby Club on February 7.

The race starts at 6am and will affect traffic until about 11am.

A 4km fun run or fun walk is part of the event as well as a 50m fun run or walk for children.

Rhoda Steyn, Springs Striders Athletic Club secretary, says for the safety of the runners the EMPD has ordered partial road closure on South Main Reef and Ermelo roads.

She urge motorists to obey these instructions at all times.

“Unfortunately there might be delays in getting to the Sunday morning church services and we ask people to please allow extra time for this,” says Rhoda.

The race follows a two-lap circular route that snakes through Geduld, Springs CBD, Ermelo Road, Strubenvale, Casseldale, Wit Road, Selection Park and Plantation Road back to the starting point at the rugby club.

Each athlete who completes the race will receive a medal and a Garbie product.

A pre-race for all the workers on the day of the road race will take place on Saturday at 6am.
