Speed limit made clear by EMPD

EMPD has responded to the speed limit allegation made by Johan Harding (43) who received a R1 000 fine last Friday.

Johan who was travelling on Wit Road to collect his son in Dunnottar was pulled over just after 9pm.

A fine of R1 000 was issued as Johan was travelling at 110km per hour.

Johan who resides and works in Springs says, “The speed limit is 100km per hour, I have never been aware of it being 80km per hour.”

Hein Botha, spokesman for the EMPD says,”Wit Road, near Dunnottar Aerodome at the intersection of the military camp is a 80km zone with speed signs erected in both directions indicating the speed.”

Johan was pulled over just before the Dunnottar army camp, which is where Botha says, “EMPD had a special night speed operation on January 15 from 9pm until 1am in Wit Road near Dunnottar.”

Botha adds, “An offender who exceeds the speed zone in an urban area by more than 30km per hour is arrested ,therefore the driver escaped arrest by 1km as he would have been arrested if travelling at 111 km per hour or more in a 80km zone.”
